Exploring Mac Apps

Today I was browsing the Top 100 Essential Mac Apps on Mactipsandtricks.com. Here are some that might be worth checking out.

Chmox (free)
Opens .chm help files on macs. A good percentage of eBooks are distributed as CHM files instead of PDFs. Now you can open these for free.

HoudahGeo (demo, $30)
Adds GPS data to the EXIF data of your images. This would be helpful for photographers who want to remember where a photo was taken, or who have projects where geography is an important element.

TiddyUp (Shareware, $30)
Finds duplicate files on a mac.

Undercover ($50, or $40 for student license)
Help to recover your stolen Mac. This app takes photos with the built-in iSight camera every 6 minutes so you can see the thief in his surroundings. If they try to sell the mac or take it to a repair shop, a message will cover the screen warning the tech that the laptop has been stolen. Screenshots of the desktop are also taken regularly to help identify the thief through email, chatting, etc

Undercover transmits network information of the stolen Mac. This information includes both internal and external IP addresses and the router address, enabling our recovery center to accurately trace the Mac's physical location, in collaboration with the ISP and the police.
