Learning Roundup: Server includes

How Do I Include One HTML File in Another
SSI or Server Side Include

How to Include HTML in Many Documents Using JavaScript

iframes

The iframe method is simpler. The iframe element can be used to force a second page to "embed" inside the first page, in much the same way that Flash movies, videos and MP3 players are embedded with the object element. And JavaScript doesn't have to be turned on. But there are disadvantages here too. The iframe element has a fixed width and height, no matter how big the content is. That can mean scrollbars inside your page. And, as of this writing, Google doesn't appear to index the separate page referenced by the iframe so that searchers can find your page.

Lyme disease researcher does nothing, more MF questions

mental_floss Blog » Money for (Practically) Nothing: 4 Very Big Paychecks for Very Little Work
Edward McSweegan
While he may not be as high profile or as well-paid as the other names on this list, McSweegan may have found the sweetest deal an average guy could find. In a coup ripped directly from one of George Costanza’s daydreams, McSweegan claimed that he did nothing for seven years while employed as a scientist at the National Institutes of Health. In 2003 McSweegan told the Washington Post that he hadn’t really been given any job responsibilities since 1996. Prior to that, he had been a researcher and program officer on Lyme disease, but he was removed from that position in 1995 for arguing with a sufferers’ support group. Although he had a title as director of the U.S.-Indo Vaccine Action Program and a list of nominal duties associated with that role, McSweegan claimed that he only carried out the tiniest of tasks like ordering coffee. In exchange, he received a salary in the neighborhood of $100,000.

When the NIH vehemently disputed McSweegan’s story that he simply went to work and did nothing all day, he maintained that he never received any assignments. McSweegan would show up, sit in his office, and read to kill time. He took up fiction writing to fill his workdays and published a pair of novels he allegedly wrote while at the office. He told CBS in an interview that he also joined a health club near work “just to sort of break up the day.”

The most amazing part of McSweegan’s story isn’t that he managed to stay employed through this seven-year period, but that he received positive performance reviews from his superiors. He wryly explained to CBS, “I guess I’m good at doing nothing.”

Antisemitism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- The gospels are not part of the educational system in Muslim society and therefore Muslims are not brought up with the stories of Jewish deicide; on the contrary the notion of deicide is rejected by the Qur'an as a blasphemous absurdity.
- Muhammad did not claim to have been Son of God or Messiah but only a prophet; a claim to which Jews reproached less.

Roundup: Macs are 4th largest PC maker,

Apple is the fourth-largest U.S. PC maker and continues to take market share. It held 9 percent of the U.S. market in the second quarter, according to Gartner.
source: ExtremeTech

They said the Mac's operating system will be an easier nut to crack once hackers start to focus on it. That is because it has a lot more code in it than Windows, leaving room for more vulnerabilities and bugs that hackers can exploit.

Roundup: O'Relliy on Healthcare, MIP penalties

Bill O'Reilly had some smart and insightful things to say about Obama's Healthcare plan. A lot of people ignore or overlook the fact that allowing the government to enter health care means that they have everyone's private medical records.

In Montana, the standard Minor in Possession penalties for the first offense are:
- $290 fine
- MIP program
- 20 hours of community service

If was a judge and the charged teen was only guilty by association, I would cut the fine in half, but still require them to take the MIP program.

A federal panel recommended today that pregnant women get priority for the swine flu vaccine. They are probably in the pockets of the WHO/CDC, who is in the pockets of the drugs companies, who stand to make millions of dollars if they can convince people to get a vaccine for swine flu. Swine flu happens to be very similar to the regular flu.

Best dating services to find a real relationship?
I tried the various services, and found that the people on the free ones, like CL, were more normal. There's a lower barrier to entry at a free site, so many more relatively normal people are willing to try it on a whim or a dare. The people on the pay sites were just much less desireable overall, and often deeper in fantasy about what the internet could do for them.
