Military Speak and Lingo

AO: area of operation
cattle van: enclosed miliary truck carrying men packed like cattle
charlie: enemy
click: kilometer
CO?: Commanding Officer
Comm: communications
CP: checkpoint
HazMat: hazardous material
IED: improvised explosive device
Jar head: marine
JAG: Judge Advocate General, military lawyers
LOD: line of duty, usually referring to injuries
LZ: landing zone
MRE: meals ready to eat
NCO: Non-commissioned officer
Outside the wire: outside the security perimeter
OGA: Other Government Agency
OTV: Outer tactical vest (usually consists of a Kevlar vest and ceramic plates)
Pineapple: hand grenade
PT: physical training
Recon
Red on red: enemy-on-enemy fire
RPG: rocket propelled grenade
SAW: Squad Automatic Weapon
Shake and Bake: used in Vietnam about attacks combining bombs and napalm
six: behind/back
Skipper: Commanding officer of a navy ship
SOP: Standard Operating Procedure
Terp: interpreter
XO: Executive Officer (one step below Commanding Officer)
zero-dark-thirty: very early in the morning
Zulu: GMT is the time zone assigned the Z letter, or Zulu
